Waste collection services in parts of Johannesburg are still having problems because casual workers are protesting. They are asking to be given permanent jobs. The protest has affected five of Pikitup's 12 depots.

Which Depots Are Affected?

The Avalon depot is the hardest hit. Protesters blocked the entrance and stopped permanent workers from leaving to collect waste. At the Randburg depot, there was also a blockade, but it has been lifted and services have started again. The Marlboro depot's blockade is also gone, but waste collection is still limited because casual workers refuse to work until their demands are met.

Depots That Are Back to Normal

At the Waterval depot, things are back to normal. Both permanent and casual workers are working, and waste collection is continuing. The Roodepoort depot is not protesting, but it still has problems because there are not enough compactor trucks. This has slowed down the clearing of waste.
